The Vennie win Game Changer-Choose Life football tournament 2019.

Footballers from West Lothian were crowned champions in a tournament on Saturday 15 June 2019 at Hibernian Training Centre, East Lothian, which took place as part of World Suicide Prevention week.
The tournament was held to help show that sport can have a positive impact on a person’s mental health and wellbeing. West Lothian side The Vennie Youth Club, came out on top on the day.
Tom Heron the Vennie Manager commented; we were very pleased to take part in the tournament. Suicide among young males is very prevalent and is a subject that is high on the agenda when we are running our youth clubs and engaging in conversations with our young people. The tournament is an ideal opportunity for people to come together and reduce social isolation. Football is a great medium to do this. Of course winning is of secondary importance when we are trying to raise awareness of such an important topic, which we are able to do.
He went on to say: So many people find it hard to talk about the way they are feeling, share your feelings with someone you can trust
We look forward to appearing in next year’s tournament to keep raising awareness of suicide and mental health issues.

680 suicides were recorded in Scotland in 2017
