The Vennie recently took part in a 5-a-side football tournament held in Edinburgh as part of ‘World Suicide Prevention Week’ called ‘Choose Life’. This was the first time the Vennie had entered a team in this competition and were the only team from West Lothian in a Lothian’s wide competition. They played 7 games, never conceded a goal and managed to lift the trophy in a tense penalty shootout. Project Coordinator Tom Heron said; it’s really good the boys travelled out with our community to participate in this event and support such an important issue. To win the trophy was a bonus. Trophies were presented by Kenny MacAskill who is the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Kevin Twaddle ex professional footballer for Hearts and Motherwell et al.
Saturdays; The Knightsridge Vennie Under 21’s Football Team start their 2nd season of the campaign. They will play their games in the B league where there are some new teams just entered. I am sure this will be a much more level playing field for the fledgling team, as last year they came up against seasoned teams in the league. Their results so far this season played 4, won 2, drew 1 and lost 1
